Business Case #8: Headhunting and Job-Shopping

You are contacted by an executive recruiter and told about another job with an excellent company that has an immediate need.  You occupy a key position in your present company, and you are presently involved with a major long-term project (it will take at least a month to complete) that will be seriously damaged and may have to be abandoned if you leave before it is finished.  The new job offers a 20 percent increase in salary and benefits.  What do you do?

  1. Would it make any difference if the salary was only 10 percent more?
  2. What if it was 40 percent? Double your present salary?
  3. Would it make any difference to you if you really liked the people in your present job?
  4. If you did not like them?
